December 16, 2016 was Ugly Christmas Sweater Day. Did you participate? What was once a gift people dreaded receiving has now become a reason to celebrate during the holiday season. There are many places selling sweaters specifically designed to be ugly, as well as sweaters that someone thought was cute, but isn’t quite suited to everyone’s tastes.
Why Christmas reminds me too much of The Hunger Games.
I wrote this blog post some time ago. I was exposed to a large quantity of Christmas music. I did not had much choice in this matter as it was played at work. I did not choose to listen to Christmas music, and have not willing listened to any significant amount of Christmas music for a long while. It is a very rare event when I do decide to choose to listen to any holiday music. I have had Christmas music thrust upon my open ears in such quantities that I cannot find enjoyment in many of the most common carols in which others find such joy.
That is not to say that I hate all songs about Christmas. I enjoy listening to “The Carol of the Bells” as well as “Panzer Klaus.” I just prefer to not listen to most Christmas music the majority of the time.
I love Art. Art is the mirror that is held up to humanity so we can see ourselves for what we really are. It condenses things down so they become something that we can digest. It puts them on a level where we can see things from all different angles and perspectives, through a lens that we don’t normally perceive our universe through.
Art becomes a way to communicate about complex issues, without necessarily ever talking about the issues. Science fiction, fantasy, fairy tales, and myths are a great medium for talking about serious, complex issues that otherwise don’t get talked about. Myths and fairy tales are both great at teaching why it is a good idea to be a good person.Continue reading
